Scorching the Garden 2020 Part 13

This is the third documented grow for us and we are introducing a lot of new things this year.  We have more hardware, better software, and the same growing plan that has worked for many years.  Its August and to be honest, things aren’t what they should be.

This has been the third HOTTEST summer on record (JUNE, JULY).  It doesnt matter how much water gets dumped on the plants.  The compost didn’t save the day like it always has.  The heat has crippled so many gardens.  By now, we would normally be harvesting every week, now, we just sweat and cry.

Two months of abnormally high temperatures on numerous occassions lasting several days each was enough to stunt the growth of all the outdoor plants and kill nearly all the flowers.  No flowers, no peppers.  When the temps finally stopped spiking in the 90s and we got the rain affect from the hurricane, the plants responded.  We had a few teenie weenie harvests, but it was just a few quarts of random pods.

One thing that wasn’t bothered much by the heat were the herbs.  We’ve had a couple of very nice harvests and are getting ready for another one.  If anything, we’ll be able to offer spice mixes, which travel better than sauces at times.

So just between us, don’t tell anyone, but if you look carefully, you’ll see a couple of new products we are working on.  They may or may not be available this year along with a few other surprises that are just too hot to put on the web.  More than likely, we’ll have something to keep your fire going this winter.

Another encouraging sign is we found this guy crawling around the catnip garden.  I wonder just how many buggers this one got.  I also wonder where the rest of them got off to.  There were about 80 of them at one time.

So that’s the update for now.  I wish we had better news to share.  I hope the next installment will have that better news.  Thanks for everything, guys.
